The benefits of RAID-10
All of our VPS host nodes make use of RAID 10 (1+0) Arrays. These include a minimum of 4-6 Western
Digital RAID Edition drives for fast read and write speeds as well as redundancy. We never use
anything less than RAID 1+0 due to this being the first level in providing data redundancy and
good performance for our containers and Dom0/DomU's. RAID 1+0 provides mirrored sets of disks
(fault-tolerance) in a striped set (speed benefits). It is preferable over RAID 0+1 or RAID 5 due
to performance benefits if/when a failed drive occurs. In addition to using RAID Arrays, we at FocusHosting make bi-weekly and monthly off-site backups (R1Soft) free of charge.
